Privacy policy
Effective October 15, 2026. AskAmerica is operated by SimpleIsHard LLC. Questions, access and deletion requests: support@askamerica.ai.
In short. The data AskAmerica serves is public government data. What we collect is about
you and your use of the service: your email and plan, a record of the queries you run, usage telemetry
that is on by default and that you can turn off, and anything you choose to send us in an issue
report or publish as a report. The website sets no cookies and runs no advertising or analytics scripts.
What we collect
- Account. Your email address, used to create your account and to email you sign-in codes.
We derive an account ID from it (a hash of the lowercased address) and store your plan.
API keys are stored only as hashes, so we cannot read a key back to you.
- Payments. Paid plans are sold through Lemon Squeezy, which handles your payment details.
We receive and store your Lemon Squeezy customer, subscription and order identifiers and the quota each order granted.
We do not receive your card number.
- Query metering. When you run a query through the service we record your account ID, a query ID,
the table, the bytes planned and scanned, rows returned, duration, and the first 1,024 characters of the query text.
We use this to meter your quota, to bill, and to run and improve the service.
- Usage telemetry (on by default). The AskAmerica software sends a record for each tool call:
a session identifier, the software version, the tool name, the time, duration, row count, whether it succeeded,
the SQL (first 2,048 characters), and any error message (first 512 characters).
The record contains no email address or account ID. (The software attaches your API key to the request as a header, as it does for
all calls to our API, but the telemetry service does not read or store it.) SQL and error text can contain whatever you typed into a query,
so do not put secrets in queries. The setup window shows a checkbox for it, checked by default. To opt out, clear that box or ask your assistant to turn telemetry off (the
set_telemetry tool
with enabled: false); your choice is saved in ~/.askamerica/telemetry.json.
- Issue reports. If you report a problem through the software, we keep the subject and text of the report,
the software version, a session identifier, and your account ID when your API key is present.
Reports are copied into our private issue tracker on GitHub, where our team reads them. Do not include secrets in a report.
- Published reports. Nothing you create is public unless you publish it. A published report appears on a public page at
<your-handle>.askamerica.ai with the display name and organization you gave us.
You can delete a published report from your account's page on that site.
The website
- No cookies, and no advertising or analytics scripts.
- Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads.
- If you enter your API key on this site, it is kept in your browser's local storage so you do not have to type it again.
Clear your site data to remove it.
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, request, time) as part of delivering it.
On your computer
The AskAmerica software keeps files in a folder named .askamerica in your home directory: your account details and API key,
the downloaded engine and data-server files, and a local history of recent tool calls (including their arguments) that lets
report checks survive a restart. Call-history files are removed after seven days without use. This local history stays on your computer;
it is not uploaded. Deleting the folder removes everything the software stored locally.
Who processes your data for us
- Cloudflare — hosting, the API, our database, and storage of metering and telemetry records.
- Lemon Squeezy — payments and billing.
- Resend — delivery of sign-in code emails.
- GitHub — our private issue tracker, where issue reports are copied.
- Google Fonts — web fonts for this site.
Your choices
- Turn telemetry off at any time, as described above.
- Email support@askamerica.ai to ask what we hold about you, or to ask us to delete your account and the records tied to it.
- Delete your published reports from your account's page, and delete the local
.askamerica folder from your computer.
Changes
If this policy changes we will post the new version here and update the effective date above.
